At last week's party, we celebrated Festivus for the rest of us.

This week brings us Card Playing Day, so we're sharing our favorite card games.

I love playing all types of games! Card games are always so easy to bring along on picnics and other family excursions, and we always manage to play a ton during the holidays.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Liverpool Rummy - I grew up playing this multi-deck card game each night during our visits to my grandparents' house. It took a long time before I could hold all those cards by myself, but it remains my first choice to play with a crowd.

If there's no crowd around and I'm still really hankering to play Liverpool, then Phase 10 is my game of choice. It uses its own special deck of cards and is very similar to the concept of Liverpool.

Uno - This is the main card game I'd play with my parents growing up (you have to say "out-o" when you're going out, if you play with us!) and I still enjoy it. The other day, Gv asked me to show her how to play when she discovered it in her closet and I was surprised to see her quickly catch on, so I know we'll be playing plenty of it now!

Old Maid - Before I could join my parents and grandparents in a game of Liverpool, they'd join me for a game of Old Maid. But I wasn't always the most honest player...one year after I'd been stuck with the Old Maid one too many times, I hid her behind the toilet!

It's become a huge joke to talk about whenever we play this with Gv.

Go Fish - There are so many fun versions of this classic card game out there, but I love how easy it is to play with virtually any deck of cards - even homemade vocabulary cards in the classroom!

Solitaire - When you're an only child, you learn how to play by yourself, and Solitaire becomes one of your favorite games. I love all the variations, but my favorites are the classic and clock versions -- have you ever played those or others?

I pretty much don't leave the house without having a regular deck of cards on hand!

If you're looking for great game ideas, check out this post on some of our favorite game books as well as this entire series on games for young children!

Also, be sure to read all about the way we store games around here -- it frees up a whole closet's worth of space for us!

Now time for the new stuff!
